ANZAC Day & Remembrance Day Commemoration Services

VAJEX Australia conducts wreath laying services on behalf of the Victorian Jewish and wider military communities. Both services are held on the Sundays after the actual designated dates.
Remembrance is an integral part of our Jewish tradition and we aim to honour the memories of our fallen so their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
The Remembrance Day service is conducted at our new Obelisk and followed by:
Annual Kosher Reception for Book of Remembrance dedication
Everyone is invited to join us for this social event. People who have lost an ex-service family member in the last 12 months can dedicate and place a page in their memory into our Book of Remembrance.
An entertaining and informative guest speaker is a highlight of the event.

Private Greg Sher Z"L Memorial Shield

This award is presented to students of Jewish Schools and UJEB who have shown outstanding character traits as demonstrated by their actions to benefit their school and/or community. These qualities reflect how Greg Sher so selflessly served his country both in Australia, East Timor and Afghanistan. A quiet achiever, he would do anything for anyone, a man of committed determination and purpose.
Passing down our rich military history to our children is of the utmost importance so that generations to come will recognise and remember the commitment and sacrifice of so many Jewish Australians who so valiantly defended our wonderful country. VAJEX Australia lists our fallen both alphabetically and by Hebrew date so that we will remember them.

Military Ritual provided at funeral services

Our Welfare Officer, Gary Ciddor or another representative, attend the funerals and consecrations of our ex-service members whenever possible. Families are contacted inviting them to have a Book of Remembrance page produced to honour the memory and service of the family member who passed away after their military service finished.

PARADE Magazine & InFormation Newsletter

These annual publications are sent to our members, Jewish community groups including schools and the wider military communities. The distribution list grows each year and you will often see PARADE in Medical or similar reception areas, although many staff complain that they get taken as they are so popular.
Interesting articles, the addresses given by our guest speakers, military protocol and lots of photos of our events are featured.
Advertisers and supporters are welcome to place notices to help us to continue providing services to the Victorian Jewish community.

Annual Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Remembrance

This moving service calls everyone to order with the sounding of the great shofar. Our Patrons lay a wreath in the shape of a Magen David made by Mrs Felix Sher, the mother of our fallen member PTE Gregory Sher who was killed in action in Afghanistan.
Banners with the names of Jewish Victorians who paid the ultimate sacrifice as well as those who returned and died after their service was over, are displayed during our service. The public show great interest and surprise that so many Jews were in the military and the banners attract a crowd.
Our association flag flies proudly in the Forecourt.
