Born 14 May 1884 Reg No 25874 St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria. Son of Abraham KOZMINSKY & Esther née GOLDBERG. Brother: 19838 PTE Clifford Samuel KOZMINSKY, AAMC, effective abroad, subsequently returned to Australia. He was educated at Wesley College (1st Prize Arithmetic 3rd Upper Class,1895) and Geelong College (1st Prize Latin University Class 1901), where he was a boarder while his parents travelled to England and then Wesley College, Melbourne,1902 where he rowed in Wesley’s winning head of the river team 190? and captain of his sixth form. He passed the Matriculation examination in his last year at the school, and was in business in Melbourne when he enlisted. Kozminsky’s Commanding Officer wrote of him after his death: ‘He had shown himself to be a brave soldier, and leader of men, possessing all the qualities which make a successful officer. Had he lived I am sure he would have won for himself much distinction.’ The epitaph on his headstone reads simply: “AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN.” His name is recorded on the Roll of Honour in the glass window of Scotch College Chapel. Also on the Rolls of Honour in Adamson Hall at Wesley College and on a plith on the Yarra Bank near the boat sheds by Princess Bridge (Melbourne). There is a footstone on his Mother’s grave at Brighton Cemetery. Brother: 19838 PTE Clifford Samuel Kozminsky, returned.
