His name is on the Historic Obelisk in Melbourne General Cemetery, however he was not Jewish. Samuel attested that he was Roman Catholic. He attended school at Christian Brothers, South Melbourne and St Patrick’s, Ballarat. Samuel was born in Brunswick, Victoria 1894 Reg No 1373 the son of Samuel Adolph EHRENBERG (1860 Reg No 9152 Ararat, Victoria -1928 Reg No 3687 South Yarra age 67) & Mary Cecilia née O’CONNOR (1864 Reg 20171 Nunawading - 8 August 1906 Reg No 9055 St Vincent’s Hospital, Fitzroy South, Victoria age 42). Samuel’s parents married 4th February 1893 Reg 1804 at 110 Queensbury Street, Melbourne (now Carlton) by Edward Lyons the Registrar or Marriages. Samuel’s mother was interred at Melbourne General Cemetery on 10th August 1906 Roman Catholic Section, Compartment F, Grave 23A. In the same grave are her parents Patrick & Mary O’Connor née CURRAN, Catherine Riley & Patrick Connors. Maternal Grandparents Patrick O’Connor & Bridget Curran married in 1849 Reg 34828 at the Roman Catholic Church, St Mary’s Geelong - Fiche 501. Rabbi’s decision: Ruled to not be Jewish. Therefore not to be on the list for future memorials.
