Born 2/5/1916 Melbourne, Victoria. Son of Mayer ROSE né ROSENBERG & Jane née SHANDEL, of St Kilda, Victoria. Brother: 418179 Pilot Officer Max Rose killed in flying battle France 8/7/1944. Sol Rose was mentioned in dispatches while serving as a medical officer in the Australian Imperial Forces. He was invalided home and later declared totally and permanently incapacitated. As he regained health Rose began work with the Repatriation Department. He continued to work for the Department for over thirty years, becoming medical superintendent of the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in 1978.
