Born 31 March 1923 Northcote, Victoria. Son of Mayer ROSE né ROSENBERG & Jane née SHANDEL, of St Kilda, Victoria. Brother: VX39118 CAPT Solomon Rose, returned. "Original Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Flying Log Book belonging to 418179 Flying Officer Max Rose who was serving on attachment with 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF), when he was killed in France on 8 July 1944. As a pilot, Rose was Captain of a crew of seven, flying a Lancaster aircraft on the night of 7/8 July 1944, which was detailed to destroy a flying bomb storage depot at St-Leu-d'Esserent in France. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it failed to return to the RAF base in East Kirkby. It was later known the aircraft crashed about 20 miles south of Dieppe, France, killing three of the crew and injuring one. The log book spans the period August 1942 - July 1944."
